History
As an Aroostook County native Justin J Powers (1919-1998) started Powers General Sheet Metal in 1949. Learning his trade as a skilled tin knocker in Connecticut. Justin decided to move home and start his own company in Caribou, Maine using grit, determination and a $500 bank loan. It didn’t take long for the small, self-run business to grow into one of the largest sheet metal fabrication shops in the area.
As the industry evolved, so did the business. Justin started getting into commercial roofing applications and created the roofing division in the late 50s. Powers Roofing and Sheet Metal was born, and the company’s largest customer was the local Air Force base. Always ready to adjust to the changing economy, Paul was forced to rework the company when the base closed in the early 90s. Powers Roofing and Sheet Metal began to work more with school districts, hospitals and shopping complexes. Clientele the company works with today.
Today, Justin’s two sons and three grandsons run the company, all starting from an early age. The long history of hard work, craftsmanship and good service remains. The family continues to keep up with changing technologies and evolving industries. They are focused on providing lasting roofs for their clients and helping building owners understand the best way to maintain them. Like Justin, they still work with sheet metal, specializing in custom fabrication work.
Powers Roofing and Sheet Metal services Aroostook and Washington counties, installing quality commercial roofing and sheet metal systems and providing service-oriented maintenance programs. While they specialize in commercial projects, they work with the philosophy that no matter what job the job is, no matter how big or small, it is done with the upmost workmanship. They stand by their work and will go the extra mile in order to get the job done right.
